You have no local connections and little money. What do you do?
The assumption I'm making is that you want me to survive. So, I'll need some income and a place to stay.
For income I quickly think of a job, some kind of work, or selling something. Of course, selling something is work but you don't got asking for permission to work you go asking for somebody to buy something. This would be a great time to have skills.
If I had a skill, I'd know the job it does and the kind of people who pay for that job. I'd probably know the spider-web of connections that job connects to. For example, if I knew how to pain houses, I might contact realtors trying to sell a house. I could pitch them on a fresh coat of paint.
As for a place to stay, I could try to make enough money to rent a car. Then, I could at least sleep in the car - assuming it wasn't winter. If it was winter, maybe I could find an indoor garage and park there. Another thing to do would be to work through the night, get paid in the morning, and rent a place to stay.
How might you do it? No need to ask about assumptions I'm making, just state your own assumptions and proceed with that info.
