I've always wanted to start a personal blog but every time I thought about setting one up I think.
"Why do I need a blog? I write a few posts every year I might as well just use Medium."
Medium is great, and it makes it easier for your content to get discovered but it's nice to have your own place. A personal blog puts you in control of your content. You don't need to worry about it shutting down, and you feel free to write just about anything.
Since starting 200 words a day I've written significantly more than I've ever done. A year ago I couldn't imagine writing more than a single post a week, now I'm writing almost every day. Before I would wait till inspiration struck me to write, now I'm making an active effort to find inspiration to write and the results are so much better.
This week I finally launched my blog and I've written six posts already. SIX! All from scratch and several more than 200 words. There are still times when I have no idea what to write about. Some days I can't find the motivation to write. Now I feel a bit guilty for going a day without trying and pretty soon I'm writing again. It's not always good, but sometimes you need to write 1,000 words to write 200 good ones.
