So I sit here in front of the screen, pondering. What will it be today? Something inside my head will pop- up, present itself to me, and suddenly appear on the screen. That's how I always do it. But today is different, today I am questioning the whole process. Is it really my thoughts at all, or am I just receiving them?
Upon reading a lot of books on Buddhism, psychology, neuroscience and even biographies, I've seen this pattern repeating time and time again. Is it really us who are coming up with our thoughts? With complete awareness of the irony, I invite you to think about that for a second.
Pay close attention to how a thought is "created" in your mind. It's just there right? You can't really control what pops in. If you could, wouldn't you have the self-discipline of a Shao- Lin monk by now? Yet you most likely don't, so there must be some truth in it. If all this is so, then I cannot really take credit for anything in this text. I just sat here like most nights, waiting for a thought to pop in, before I wrote it down so that you could read it.
