hi, this is what I do, what do you do?, this is what I can do for you, what can you do for me?, let's keep in touch and bye.
👆🏽Legit how most of my conversations with other VC's go now-a-days. I get it. Everyone is busy but this is so transactional.
One of the reasons why I like being a VC is to talk and connect with other people. Part of me dies every time a conversation ends up being transactional. There is nothing wrong with it and it's part of the nature. However, that conversation/relationship can be so much better.
To connect better one of the things I do now is to try to find that one thing we can bond over by asking questions related to what they do "outside" of work or things that they are interested it.
I know this is a two way street and you can't force anything but I believe that people are just afraid to talk about themselves and their interest.
To take this to the next level and build deeper relationships, I have started hosting dinners. It started out with my immediate friends who I know well but I am ready to invite guests who I might not know well.
If you are in the Chicago area and interested in being part of the dinner, dm me.
