I had just read an interesting article on Makermag a few days ago; it's about don't need to wake up at 5 am in the morning. The article is about you should find out what suitable you rather than blindly follow those wake-up morning bring you lots of benefit post.
I have the same situation here where I been waking up at 6 am for this whole month, it feels good and optimises my work schedule, I can start getting into the zone before 9 am. Within that 3 hours, I did some email/twitter checking, write a post here, do our laundry, some kitchen work, get my son ready for school. By the time I send my kids to school around 8:30 am, after a shower and I m prepared for development.
This is lots of improvement compare to last time, which I end up finish everything around 10 or 11plus in the morning and within 1 hour, need to busy with the lunch already.
There is only 2 issue for my schedule, wake up at 6 am in the morning, I should get on the bed early, but so far just the first few days I m able to do that. Most of the time after I finish everything is around midnight already, so around 5 hours plus sleeping is not enough. If not enough of nighttime sleep, I m looking into an evening power nap, which most of the time ruined by the little kid or some of my day time work.
So wake up early is work for me, it's just that I need to make sure I can get a power nap in the evening or I can sleep early. So far I have been pretty proud of my productivity in March
