Last week, I started to practice how to breathe when talking for a long period of time. During class, we were required to tell a story that was 7-minutes long.
To prep for the story, I started to write down beats (outline) and also planned where long pauses can have an impact on the story.
When I performed the story, the first 6 minutes of the story went flawlessly but I struggled with the last minute. I think this was because I didn't have a good ending for the story and I was second guessing what I have prepared. I started to change the ending on the fly and started speaking fast as well.
For next week, we are assigned to prepare a story that can be told in 3 min, 5 min, and 7 min.
I am going to experiment with telling a story with inner dialogue added to it. This way you are not only describing what happened but also the thought process on how that decision was made.
I like telling 5 min stories the most because it's the right amount of time for important details but not too many details where it can feel like you are dragging the story.
