Start with Why isn't necessarily something I learned today, it's something remind myself of every time I work on a new talk, workshop, or really any content.

This is the best 18 minutes you can spend on YouTube. Ever. #200wordsTIL

Start with Why will have the biggest effect on your career of any content you can consume. I kid you not.

Here's why

Humans are driven by emotion.

We like to think we're so smart and cerebral. That our decisions are rational and full of logic.

But we're not. We are driven by emotion.

When you talk about What, you are talking to the brain. The smart part of the human. The part that follows logic, thinks through logical steps.

That part of the human that will _never_ realize this is a picture of a Boa digesting an elephant.

When you talk about Why, you speak to the emotions. The part that makes the decisions.

WHY should I listen to your talk? WHY should I follow your suggestion? WHY should I care?

Answer WHY first and you have my full attention for your WHAT.

Start with What and I'm scrolling twitter 5 seconds later.

@swizecteller If you liked Simon's Start with why presentation, you will love Daniel Pink's book on Drive: The Surprising truth of what motivates us.
