I notice a pattern in my life. Every time I signup for a course or a month-long commitment to learning something, my day crumbles, my routine crashes. I suddenly get high priority projects at work, immediate things to be delivered at the office, while my tasks in the course get the minimum work done. It is as if the world is conspiring against me 😁.
Another way of looking at this is: I did not rise to the level of my goals. I fall to the level of my systems. The routines and habits are okay. The system for managing things and getting them done is broken. It is very fragile and when the push comes to shove the system breaks. Maybe my system is designed to work for my ideal self but not for my lazy self.
For a self-proclaimed productivity geek, this is huge learning. I need to build systems, workflows and routines that are best suited for my lazy and shittiest version of me. I can design these workflows and systems when I am at my best. But the target audience is a lazy version of me.
I started with the Write of Passage course. My sleep cycle went for a toss and started sleeping shallow and only for 4 hours a day. Shitty sleep cycle made my day worse, started eating crap, which makes me feel bad. I missed my strength training sessions, which makes my back feel weak. Adding to this, there was an essential but unplanned team offsite, which again took a toll on my sleep and food. I am just barely surviving in shipping the tasks and completing the assignments.
Wish me luck to get back on track.
