It is around 6 weeks to 6 months for a baby to start sleep training. Today I am looking into different ways of sleep training.
Sleep training is the process of helping a baby to sleep alone without parents through the night.
- Cry it out
This is leaving a baby when he or she is sleepy and leaving him or her crying even if they start to cry after parents leave a room. On the other hand, there is a counterargument that there is a meaning for their crying and being ignored might affect the baby negatively. It might be better to respond to the baby's crying but gradually expand the time of being left without parents.
- "No Tears" Techniques
Another way is staying with a baby like sitting in a chair next to a crib where a baby sleeps but gradually sitting further from the baby. Then the parents finally stay out of the room.
Parents gradually decrease the time checking with a baby until they fall asleep.
Once the sleeping schedule is established without parents, parents can have more peaceful night time. Not everything goes well as expected but I hope we could also establish our son's sleeping schedule.
