The analogy is perfect as I am trying to decide on what I want to do this morning. I am 100% with you on having too many tabs open at a time both figuratively and philosophically.
One of the things I have been doing that has been helping me is focusing on a couple of things from a huge list of things that I want to do.
One day I sat down and did a brain dump of all the things that I wanted to do. The list came down to 25+ things or so and out of those I started to focus on 7 things. You can read more about that thought process here.
I have the problem of choosing what to work on because I have so many things I can work on. So having specific things I want to focus on has been helping me close some of those tabs or bookmark them for later.
Beginning of every week, I make a schedule for all the same seven things that I want to focus on. I try to have freedom with it and not put too much pressure if I don't actually do the scheduled thing.
Ever since I started doing it weekly, I have been able to close out the browser and focus more effectively.
