In the world of productivity, not all of your task is created equal. There is a task that you can do without so much effort. On the other side, there is a task that you can’t really start at all. The resistance was too much. As much as possible you wanted it to avoid at all cost. Sounds like procrastinations building up slowly.
A lot of productivity guru call it Eat the big frog first so that the next thing that you will do will be easy. In my search for ultimate productivity hack, I realized that it really doesn’t work for me since I always feel a lot of resistance eating that big frog task. This leads me to task avoidance and procrastination. It really kills my momentum.
So what I found on my productivity arsenal is I will start doing the easy task to get the initial momentum going. I like the initial spike of dopamine accomplishing the small task. This helps me to keep the momentum moving until I’m confident enough to get the momentum to tackle the big task.
If the big task is too big. I’ll probably chop it with a checklist so that even though I will not be able to finish it at least I’ve made some progress.
I just experienced it again right now since I’m updating my personal site. I was avoiding to write the copy of my about-me sections since I don’t know yet on what to write about me. So I’ve moved to update the images of my portfolio site since it was easier and doesn’t require much thinking.
