Most people have a need for generating value they can get paid for. They use these payments to finance their life.
The value we generate can be considered a job done.
A sandwich does the job of staving off hunger for another few hours.
A pair of pants does the job of keeping me from walking around bare-legged. Some pants have pockets. Some more comfortable than others. Some cheap. Mostly the same job is being done.
Writers use words to do the job of providing explanations and communicating to the reader. Stephen King's job is to make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. An email copywriter's job is to get you to click the button or link.
Do you know what value you provide? What jobs do you do for people or organizations?
When you know the jobs people want to get done in their lives, one proven way to earn a good living is to get really good at doing a job and providing that job to a list of clients.
CPAs help you handle your money and taxes. An attorney helps you navigate the legal system. A programmer helps turn your idea into an app. A designer makes everything look better.
Because so many people need to get jobs done, there's always creative optimizations that can be made. Think Better. Faster. Cheaper. More profitable.
To earn a living, just figure out an optimization you can make for a group of people. Charge for that optimization. Do the hard work of getting a list of clients and selling them the value of your offer. Use LinkedIn and cold emailing, all the great companies have clawed their way out of obscurity.
Now, just do simple math.
How much money do you need to earn each month?
Plan for retirement, emergencies, and vacations.
It's simple. But, anything new will go slower than you think it should. Ask for help when you feel stuck. Hire somebody to help you grow. Build an actual business - then sell it.
