As I type this I’m laying in a bed downstairs while my wife is in our bed upstairs. Am I in the dog house? Are we having marital problems?

Nope. None of that.

It’s just hot up there and our guest room is cooler. Sometimes we sleep in separate beds. We don’t see it as a big deal.

Some people might point to that and say that we’re dysfunctional or that married couples should always share a bed or that they love to cuddle with their partner. That’s cool. You do you.

This arrangement works just fine for us and sometimes it’s just nice to have your own space to sleep in. Even when we’re in the same bed we have our own comforters/blankets. Right now she sleeps under our covers and I sleep on top of then with my own blanket. This saves us from playing tug of war all night. I just think that’s smart.

Sharing sheets and a blanket is kind of weird, if you think about it. Chances are that someone will be a cover hug (I think that’s me).

So here I am, the whole bed to myself, enjoying the ceiling fan and cooler downstairs temperature. With my 200 words down, now it’s time to enjoy a little Fear the Walking Dead before hitting the sack :)

@nicksimard Nothing wrong with any of this except the FTWD reference at the end. ;)

@nicksimard agree with a vengeance! ;) The rule that married couples have to sleep on the same bed is one marriage myth I would love for it to disappear.

@nicksimard To me, it sounds like your ability to do this without suspicion, argument or resentment is a sign of a good relationship!

@nicksimard - different bed times, different wake times - temperatures, snoring, etc. etc. sharing a bed is nice for more intimate activities, but sleeping is sleeping. :-)
