She is a tiny ginger powderpuff,

curled in a fort of pillows.

Dreaming of scratching posts,

made of wild, weeping willows.

Wary of open spaces,

She seeks out the comfort of a den.

Within Her bedroom,

She shuffle and nests like a mother hen.

She slumbers in wait,

for the rattling of Her baby food bowl.

until then She won't wake,

for not even a mouse out its hole.

This little thing,

so sweet and so quiet.

You'd hardly believe,

she'd raise quite a riot.

But if Her eyes open,

I tell you beware.

Be sure to clear everything,

even the dishware.

For in a flurry of kitten claws,

no tea towel is safe.

Even if you grab Her,

they will snag in a strafe.

Her mews are incessant,

Her fur ever shedding.

And God help me please,

She keeps needing more bedding.

My legs are in tatters,

Scratched like an old map.

But I can't stop myself because,

She purrs in my lap.

Oh Kitten, dear Kitten,

Don't stop being yourself.

But please, please have mercy,

Come down off that shelf!

- Dedicated to my roommates new kitten, Kiara. The little, fluffy monster that she is.
