What would be the ideas which sounds so absurd but technically challenging?

Talking over drinks with frineds who are interested in technology, we asked each other what you would want to if we do not have to work on our project.

  • LEGO Block Detection

One of my friends has some challenges that his kids asked him to find a specific piece of LEGO block out of 2000+ blocks. His eye has been trained to detect such a block based on the request. One day he thought it would be much easier for object detection algorithm to find it immediately.

One challenge would be a dataset creation. It is time consuming to create such image dataset. Also, to train the images with different angles, and clutters, we need to augment the data set by adding noises, synthetic obstacles, and rotations.

  • Movie Recommendation only for you

Now we are getting tired of being recommended in google, netflix, amazon etc. It seems there are some pattenrs and the recommended result would end up with similar suggestions. It just reinforce our preferences. However, based on your inputs about movie rating along with other attributes such as movie directors, actors and actress, lengths of movies, theme and genre etc.

He first tried to understand and analyze his preference. It would be interesting if such recommendation could suggest some movies that widen our eye sights.

What kind of ideas do you have?

@hiro How about a library of food you keep taking pictures of, which is able to tell you what you're eating; too many carbs, proteins, not enough this or that...?

@hiro Yup that sounds about right. Not at all surprised there's something like this, seems pretty obvious given how much food we photograph nowadays. I'm going to check this out.
