Since I've started this challenge I've begun to learn more about the things I enjoy writing and how I'd like my writing to be. So far I've settled on 3 points I want to keep in mind for all my writing.

1. Honesty

Nothing is more interesting to me than reading an honest account of something. I think this is something that both maker culture and great art shares. Maker culture encourages sharing your progress, successes, and failures openly. Great art to me is an honest reflection of the artist. I'd like to write as uncomfortably honest as I can.

2. Understanding not judgement

It's easy to judge another point of view or something you're not familiar with at first glance. I can be cynical about a lot of things but I don't feel any value comes from it. Trying to understand the unfamiliar and approaching it from a position of curiosity feels a lot more positive to me.

3. Sharing not preaching

I've found I respond a lot better to someone sharing their own experiences and conclusions than simply trying to teach me what they believe. Sharing experiences treats the recipient with respect that they can process the information. Preaching can come off as condescending or just overwhelming. I'd like to share any insights I've found through stories of my own experiences.

@keenencharles these writing principles are great. Will try it! And hopefully come up with my own list too. Thanks for the inspiration! :)

@keenencharles All well-written goals. I'm definitely aspiring towards "sharing not preaching." I'm becoming more aware each time I turn didactic and trying to step away from it.

@vickenstein I'm trying to be more aware as well sometimes it happens so easily but I guess it takes time.
