The show HOUSE was one of my favorite shows.
The show is like a detective mystery about the human body and diseases. It is based in a hospital where patients come with symptoms that other doctors were unable to diagnose and treat.
It took me a while to be comfortable with all the blood and needles that the show reveals in each episode but once I did - I couldn't stop.
Each episode shows a patient that arrives with a very peculiar symptom and the main doctor - named House, go through a series of possible causes of the problem. They brainstorm potential solutions and eventually discover the cause.
The process with which they investigate and rule out conditions is based on science and is fascinating to me. I read in the news that a doctor in Germany used something in the show to quickly diagnose a real life situation.
So I have found myself trying to investigate symptoms whenever people tell me what's wrong. Most people have the same symptoms - tired, low energy, headaches, dizzy etc....
Thanks to the internet and forums, many symptoms are a sign of a an interconnected system issues. But I have noticed an issue with my own doctors... if there is an issue with one number, I need to contact the specialist for that issue. The doctors are eager to rid their hands off of potential problem so they write a referral and send you off. No one wants to do the extra work of connecting the signals that the human body is giving out.
We need doctors to be more like House. We need doctors to evaluate our symptoms as a whole as opposed to their specialization. Maybe this is a gap that should be filled. And no WebMD isn't going to do it.
