Excitement builds nothing.
Boredom will always set in.
As an excuse, we say "Life happened". Nope you probably got bored.
It happens to all of us.
You get bored with an idea you abandon it or hop to the next one.
You get bored of a book, you drop it.
You get bored with the new language you're learning, you deliberately forgot about it. ("deliberately" because you allowed boredom to get to you).
You get bored of music, you stopped learning piano.
You get bored of arts, you stop drawing or painting.
You get bored of your Mum, you pick her calls when you want to.
You get bored with your relationship, you unconsciously begin to reduce commitments.
James Clear wrote in Atomic Habits;
The greatest threat to success is not failure but boredom. We get bored with habits because they stop delighting us. The outcome becomes expected. And as our habits become ordinary, we start derailing our progress to seek novelty. Perhaps this is why we get caught up in a never-ending cycle, jumping from one workout to the next, one diet to the next, one business idea to the next. As soon as we experience the slightest dip in motivation, we begin seeking a new strategy - even if the old one was still working. As Machiavelli noted, "Men desire novelty to such an extent that those who are doing badly well wish for a change as much as those who are doing badly."
If there's something you need to get used to, it is boredom. Learn to handle it like a boss.
So many life-changing business ideas have probably run through your head, you even started some. Imagine if you never allow boredom.
It steals what you actually love to do or what you actually want from you.
Train to yourself to get used to boredom.
You see your Mum's call and you don't feel like talking. Pick the call anyway.
You're tired of that new language. Show up and learn it again today anyway.
You're bored of that book and you know how transformational the few chapters you've read have changed you. Continue reading anyway.
You're tired of working on that idea. It feels like forever and yet you can show anyone anything yet. Get in and work on it anyway.
Remember - The greatest threat to success is not failure but boredom.
Become a pro at this thing called life, handle boredom like a boss.
