This post is mainly to remind me of the steps to configure git and GitHub. Since I am no longer using Vagrant to connect via VM, I needed to redo this setup so that I can push to and pull from my GitHub account. Maybe this will help someone else as well!

1. Configure GitHub Email

git config --global user.email '[email protected]'

2. Configure GitHub Full Name

git config --global user.name 'Your Name'

3. Generate SSH Keys

The prompts that follow you can leave blank if you wish. Finally, the following command will add the key to the ssh-agent:

ssh-add ~/.ssh/id_rsa

4. Add Public Key to GitHub

cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub

Copy the block of characters received and add this SSH key to your GitHub account. It's fine if your GitHub has multiple keys - just means that multiple machines have access to the account using your account credentials.

All done! Pushing to your GitHub account should work fine after this.

As I continue to practice coding I hope to do other similar posts on new things I am learning, as well as things I have already learned but may just need a refresher on.
