Most of the obstacles we face in life aren't external, but internal. They consist of the fears that stop us from taking action, other emotions that inhibit, such as feelings of anxiety, intimidation, overwhelm, and so on.

Our emotions are rooted in ways of thinking, whether the assumptions we have about ourselves or how the world works. "I can't...", "I don't know how...", "I'm not good at..." are thoughts that prevent us from even trying, let alone succeeding.

That's why the stories we tell ourselves, about ourselves and what's possible for us, are crucial in paving the way to our goals. We must believe in our abilities to achieve what we want and the possibility of our dreams coming to reality.

"Can I..." is a horrible question to ask, regardless of the answer, because it brings our abilities into question.

Instead, we should be asking: "How can I..."

The focus is on exploring the path to take, not our ability to reach our destination.

I tend to get in my own way a lot, and I'm looking to be more mindful of that. In fact, it may be better for me to take myself completely out of the equation: don't think about myself, but think about what the goal needs for it to be achieved. That way I don't feel intimidated by what's involved and focus on the tasks that need to be done.

Cultivating a positive attitude about "self" or removing "self" from the equation. I experienced times of peace and productivity when I don't identify with a particular personality or "self". I feel like I'm an observer rather than a player in the situation, able to disconnect from thoughts and emotions that get in the way of the actions needed for success.
