Experimenting with my Workday

I wrote about flow the other day and recently I've been experimenting with different work situations to better find my "flow".

I think what works best for me is to work in 'bursts' of around 2-3 hours - Ideally, 2 hours is the sweet spot. That gives me the ability to break my day up into 3 distinct sessions. 

Lately I've been doing my morning sessions at a cafe downtown. I like that because it gets me out of the house and the morning walk through the neighbourhood is good to get some fresh air and appreciate the day ahead.

In between sessions I like to do something away from the computer. Usually this would be cooking food, taking a walk, going to the gym or just chilling out. Then, I'm back into it for my midday work session.

Every now and then I smash out a big evening session where I might work from 7-10pm. I don't like to do this all the time, but if I have shit to do and I'm focused, then I get to work!

It's just so awesome to be completely flexible throughout the day. When I enter into a new session of work I'm relaxed and refreshed. NOT like a 9-5 where your brain is literally fried by 3pm. It's such a drain and I don't think any human can "productively" sit at a desk for 8 hours without a substantial break here or there throughout the day.

    @jacklyons - I also work in bursts. If I notice I'm unfocused, a walk and a nap are great.
