I suggested last week's writing topic of unpaid roles and it was really interesting to read everyone's take on it.
Here is what everyone wrote:
- Unpaider Roles?
- Importance of Volunteering
- Being paid (or not) in a Social Enterprise
- Unpaid roles (@aslampervez)
- Beyond Unpaid Roles
- Unpaid roles at a nonprofit radio station
- Unpaid Roles (@basilesamel)
- Unpaid Roles -- Don't Exist
- Unpaid Roles (@wernminlim)
- Unpaid roles (@keni)
- Un(der)paid roles
- Worth It or Not?
- Unpaid Roles (@berkan)
- Unpaid Roles: Part 1
- Unpaid Roles: Part 2
If I missed any, let me know and I will add it to the list.
Reading through all these posts challenged some of my assumptions and opinions. Here are two takeaways:
With whatever work you are doing, there has to be a balance between passion, exposure, and money. Without it, the time you are spending doing that activity will make you think you are being undervalued.
With whatever work you are taking, there has to be a clear outline of goals and outcomes. Without it, you will feel like you are being taken advantage of and demotivates you to do the work even when you love that work.
Ultimately, any type of work should lead to happiness one way or another.
