How do you find the right business partner?

I am very good at coming up with ideas and pitching for clients but when it comes to selling - that's a domain I am always not comfortable with.

Countless projects lay in ruins just because I couldn’t be able to sell and bring them into fruition.

For example, I will start a project, launch it successfully but I’ll become a total wussy when it comes to selling my ideas or projects. I mean, standing in front of people or customers selling my ideas is really hard for me and I normally can’t take any project further than an initial mail or contact.

I came up with an idea - why not look for a partner who can sell - someone who can take a project and then take it further?

That’s when I had to make an ad in the daily newspapers looking for a partner.

It took a week before I got my first call for a potential partner.

We met for a beer as an interview ( I wanted to see if we have something in common before committing down the line) and discussed a lot of ideas that night - and as they say the rest is history.

How did you find your first business partner?

    @chacha - I didn't :)

    But I see value in the synergy that comes with more than one mind working at a task. I have heard many horror stories about business partners gone bad so I know that it needs caution. Money brings out the worst in some people.

    About the ability to sell, I say finding a partner is a great way to offset it. But I also encourage you to try to improve at least communication skills even if you have a partner. Both writing and speaking skills are a requirement when it comes to business is what I have come to realize.
    What you are doing here, writing away towards joining the #TeamStreak in 30 days is a good start.

    So how is your business going? How did the partner turn out?
    Tell us more.

      Hi @keni, thank you for your thoughtful comment. A lot of great advice in this one comment.

      The partnership isn't working as I expected because as it turned out we have very different work ethics. I have a background in Banking which means I am a workaholic and like things which are under my control - my business partner is a complete opposite of that.

      At the moment, I don't have a choice but to keep him around.

      The main reason I joined 200wad is to improve my communication skills, specifically writing.

      BTW, where do you think I should start on improving my speaking skills?
