The third time writing 200 words, and it's starting to feel a little like a ritual. A couple days ago I read an article about the importance of rituals and routines in a workday. I'm starting to think about this 200-word practice as something that can warm me up for the other writing.
I've also started to recognize how my mind can stop me from writing. If I think I don't have anything to write, I won't have anything to write. Even while I'm in the practice of writing. And then there are the distractions. Playing Skin Wars in the background doesn't help with completing these last 100 words. What's really distracting me about this show is all the lost opportunities for puns. With someone like RuPaul on the judging panel, it's disappointing.
But this is one of my routines, I guess. Or maybe it's a ritual -- trying to find something to play in the background while I work. It doesn't really work (pun intended), which is part of the purpose behind examining the rituals and routines in my workday. Now that I know I can explore other workday routines that can help rather than hinder.
Now on to the next.
