Today I read a bunch of posts... with lists. Things that @philh doesn't know how to do them; and things that @danielmiller doesn't know how to do or the ones he DOES know how to do! And things Daniel does and @philh does as well, maybe. Or the Three Simple Questions you can try to answer (with 3 lists I suppose!) and how @twizzle answered them (with lists!).
I loved these lists. I wanted to write them as well. I started. NOT such an easy task, considering that one wants to be honest, yet not dull as wheat bran (tell me if I'm right, once you try! Wheat bran I mean).
And then... something that Philippe said, made me think about 200WaD... Why is it so special, so different than other online places where people write, even every day, if they choose...
THAT CHOICE is the difference.
Everywhere else you can choose to write, or... not to write. And so, FIRST there is that something you want to express. In your blog post. On Facebook. On Twitter... In 2643 words, 500, 140 or 280. And THEN you write it.
Here, on 200WaD, FIRST comes the "to write" (well, at least when you want to be part of #StreakTeam or just seriously work on your habit) and THEN the "what".
Out of all the words out there, The 200 Words are waiting for you to choose them.
There are days you have an idea, an inspiration, so you just pick them lightly, and the choice defines you. There are days you have to make an effort, you don't know which ones to choose. I think that defines you more. But there are days you (almost) give in, and then, like wild animals, feeling more curious than frightened once the human finally stops moving, the words come and choose you.
They define you. And that's the magic!
