Writing all day is not the same as publishing.

My loss of streak is proof of that.

Today, I awoke at 3:21am with an idea ready to start. My brain was working on it all day yesterday and I guess the intensity with which I was tackling something else caused me to not complete the streak-required minimum of getting 200 words into this particular site.

But what else did I accomplish?

I registered a new domain name, crafted the beginnings of a productized service and formulated some thoughts around what it takes to start. I wrote many more than 200 words in other places but none seemed to have found their way here.

How do I judge that? On the one hand, I don't see my membership in #teamstreak. Does that mean I'm not part of the team? Do I get shunned when I show up to write? I doubt it.

In fact, I've argued that the whole streak think is a dubious incentive at best and possibly carries too much negative weight for the inevitable day you've simply got too much life to life.

My approach hasn't changed. I'll be writing daily. I'll show up here and write and publish and remember what it's like on the days you're busy.

I'll publish first when I remember and won't let @lucjah distract me with MontyPython next time.

@brianball ah man, you had quite the streak going too, if I recall correctly. And I hear ya on the words. At my job I probably write upwards of 10,000 words on some days. Maybe I should start re-purposing some of that, especially considering that I come up with some pretty cool workflows and readers here might enjoy that :)

@nicksimard - thanks -- yeah, 50 or so. No worries. 50 days from now, we'll be there again.

@brianball @Rawhead yes, this was an amazing moment of that movie (which actually was built of amazing moments..)
I am a Streak Freak, and a wholehearted supporter of non-consistency! Thanks god I know that everything is just one big paradox and I don't have to go mad because of the above...

@brianball "whole streak think is a dubious incentive at best" - yes quite true. I love the streak mechanism for nudging me to keep certain habits, but to be completely objective, it's a game we created to play with ourselves, where we are the banker, player and opponent. Strange overlaps of interests and conflicts for sure! ;)
