I'm a Great Worker, but an Abysmal Manager

Published on Jan 10, 2019

I always thought I'd make a good dad, but the way I run my life provides countering evidence.

I'm not a lazy guy. Actually, I really enjoy doing hard work. But I just can't get myself to do so consistently, thus the situation on my plate is: good employee with no direction due to abysmal management.

What's the deal with this manager? Why so shitty?

Turns out the manager is too invested into the employee's feelings. The manager remembers what it feels like to have been an employee, because he had been an employee himself. And when he had been an employee, he had gotten to do what he wanted; his own manager had not provided any concrete tasks to do anyways. So instead of working hard he had just done what he wanted, which was eat cake, drink Heineken, and watch YouTube.

To the current manager, this seems like a blink ago. A moment's time. But because of his experience, he can't seem to force the employee now under his management to do the hard things that he wants done. He can't bring himself to do it. So instead he just allows his own employee to do as he pleases. Just as his own management had done for him.
