A BIG Thank You To The 200WAD Community

Yesterday I hit my 30 day streak for the first time! It's crazy how fast this month has gone and it's even more crazy to look back on all the different posts I have created. According to my stats I've written 53 pages! I can now see just how powerful it is to do a little a day. Compounded over weeks, months and years, these simple habits amount to an incredible body of work!

Furthermore, I appreciate taking the time out to sit, relax and think creatively. Most posts don't take more than 15 minutes to write and once they are complete I get such a great feeling of satisfaction. There have been a few days here or there where I just didn't feel like writing. But the great thing about writing 200 words is that you can easily just start by writing junk.

Write about your day, a book you're reading, the weather, funny cats ... whatever gets you over the line.

I find that as I write around a topic an idea slowly begins to manifest. I don't think too much about building an argument, proving a point, serving evidence or using fancy words. I just write what's in my mind, from my own personal experience. Whether the topic is true or not doesn't matter. It's just my representation of the world.

This method of writing has lead to some quirky posts that I never saw coming. Some notables include:

And I'm sure there'll be many more to come. I like the fact that my ideas are kept raw and constrained by a word count. Obviously most posts go over, but it's good practice to keep things succinct and to the point

What's more, because I'm enjoying writing every day I just bought a new book called Writing Tools: 55 Essential Strategies for Every Writer.

So far this book is incredibly helpful. I'm only three or four tools deep and can already notice how great sentences are made. If you want to improve your writing, whether for school, storytelling, work or simply just for fun then this book is a must buy!

So, to wrap up I just want to say THANK YOU to the 200 WAD community! Everyone is so friendly and supportive, and it's really fun reading all the creative work out there, every day!
