Today, I started reading instead of getting straight to writing. I normally don't read for inspiration but today's writings were, in fact, inspirational. @vickenstein wrote a ❤️ letter and shared it. @keni wrote about using social media to crowdsource information that could get her back in the pool. And, I've been thinking about the 🔥 and the streak number and what it signals.
When you come to 200 words a day, is it friendly? Is it inviting, welcoming, a place you can just dive in and get started?
You check out the Fellowship -- and maybe you'll show up at the very bottom - even if you're Stephen King on the first day. In fact, anybody with any attribute other than showing up since the beginning is not at the top.
@baz, What if, in addition to a streak count, we had a %. or 74/78 ( that is the person shows up 74 of 78 days )
Currently, if you want any kind of recognition and miss your streak on a holiday weekend, you're back to 0. What about discovery? How about a menu-item that shows us all the new folks and 1st Posts - so we can welcome them easily?
In summary, we're signaling the wrong things to have an inclusive community. We're signaling that this is a place that recognizes only people who show up daily and have done so since the beginning. Just finding us 223 days later? Welcome to the bottom where nobody will ever see you.
To be clear, our founder is doing an amazing job of hearing our ideas and complaints and working his butt off. This is not a complaint, just another noticing.
