It's 4pm on a Sunday and I'm happily browsing the net, catching up on life and reading anything that looks interesting. I want to write my 200 words and get that ticked off the list for today. However,  I'm actually kind of struggling to know what to write about.

Of course I can just ramble and get by, which I have on several occasions. But really, what good is that? It's just to keep my daily writing streak alive.

Many writers talk about the importance of life experiences as a crucial ingredient to success. One must do interesting things, they say, and have their mind's expanded to become an interesting writer. Creativity can come from reading books, having deep conversations, going travelling or exploring life experiences...

But sometimes that's just not entirely possible. Sometimes it's just downright hard to be ... interesting.

The challenge here on 200 words a day is to be interesting everyday. In many ways, that's unlikely, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Some may argue that the simple act of just "doing the work" counts more than publishing a polished gem once every now and then.

What about you, do you feel this pressure to continually write things that are interesting?

    @jacklyons I found it easier to write interesting things that's interesting to myself. It gets way harder and often less fulfilling, when I write for a specific audience, for the 200wad community, or for someone else in general. So for me, it's more the who, than the what...

    @jacklyons

    I actually wrote a post and was about to publish it when I realized that it wasn't interesting and was more a recounting of my day. So I CTRL + A and deleted it. Then I wrote something more emotional... and then I was more easily able to write something more 'interesting'.

    I think that interesting usually is just people being real with themsleves. I find it not interesting when people try to imitate some idealized figure of what a person ought to be. Little bores me more than people who try to write about what htey think they ought to write about. Like I want to know the only thing that one can write. Like the secret that only they could tell me.

    Write the kinds of secrets that nobody else in the world knows.
