Feelings are funny. They can appear out of nowhere, turn your whole world upside down and then suddenly disappear as if nothing has happened. And it's almost if you can't do anything about it. You can't control it.
What I find most interesting and even a bit scary is that a feeling can be so strong that you believe it will never go away again. You think that this is how you're going to feel for the rest of your life. People who have been heartbroken or who have lost a loved one can certainly relate to that.
When you feel so bad, it's hard to imagine that things can change again. But they do! Slowly but surely you are going to feel different. Better. It's going to hurt less.
The trick is to not fall into this trap of our mind in the first place. You can observe your feelings without becoming totally overwhelmed by them. Notice them but try not to engage. Say out loud how you feel and let the feeling pass through you. It doesn't have to stick around.
This may seem impossible at first, but give it a try. A little practice will go a long way.
