I had to wipe the snow from my eyes to check I wasn't hallucinating. Sofie was doing her best to keep the attention of this guy who seemed distracted with looking at the crowd of people behind her. What a good friend Sofie was, she was keeping this guy warm while her best friend Tiril was checking out the other guy she had matched on Tinder; you know, just to play the field before deciding who to go home with.
Suddenly with wild eyes, Tiril pops out of the crowd with another guy in tow and introduces him to me. Jesus Christ, now it was me locked in conversation with another random guy whilst Tiril, I assume, was test driving a third. I catch Sofie's eyes and she motions for a smoke. I nod and I introduce Tinder Guy #1 to Tinder Guy #2. Sofie and I leave them in confused conversation without looking back (cool guys don't look at explosions). We stroll down the road with our fingers crossed for Tiril but really for the guys she had lined up, I hoped they at least made friends with each other. All's fair in love and war, right?
Lina left about four months ago. It was strange, to say the least, to go from a relationship which I honestly hoped would be my last to the wasteland that is the modern dating scene.
