My job is to solve problems all day. Many of them are complex and even the “fun” ones still require a lot of brainpower. Most days I enjoy it, and I get to exercise my mind while playing with apps.

But some days, it weighs me down. I just get overwhelmed and think to myself that I just can’t solve one more problem. I stare at my computer screen and see a wall of stress.

Working at Zapier, I don’t just have to know OUR product. Because we integrate with hundreds of apps I end up having to know how those work as well. And not just the apps, but their APIs.

I swear sometimes we provide better support than the teams behind other apps. I’ve actually had some users say things along the lines of “I know you may not have the answer but you’re so much faster than the other app’s support team. I’ll be waiting days to hear back from them”.

As great as it feels to be appreciated by our users, and to have constant challenges thrown at me (it DOES make the day fly by) sometimes I hit a wall.

The feeling passes, often times within the hour. It’s important to acknowledge it, though.

@nicksimard I experience something similar in my IT support role. I only look after a very small subset of applications and services for my customer (who is a global organization) but often get people calling or contacting me to ask me about other things. Not because I know about them, but because I can give them a sensible answer, or just know who they need to speak to. Often it's just a case of advising them to contact the proper helpdesk and quote "I have a problem with XXX please assign this ticket to the XXX team for resolution".
It's a nice position to be in. Sounds like you have an interesting job!

@nicksimard Long time ago I did customer support online (only a small part of all the things I did) and what stood out was how many more people are extremely entitled than those who are grateful. I took it as a reminder that this attitude propagates across our lives if we're not careful.
