Parent post: Audiobooks

I am a fan of reading.
I used to love going to a cafe after work or on the weekend. Buy myself an overly expensive cup of coffee and sit at the corner reading my book for hours. So much so that most of the folks in my favorite cafe knew my order and always asked about which book I was reading that day.

That was several years ago before I decided to donate all my free time to this thing called Business. Since that decision, I discovered shared a shared work-space called WeWork where I go to do everything other than my regular 9-5 work.

I went a year or so without reading a complete book during this phase of my life. Then I discovered audio-books. Magic.

I was reading when I was communing.
I was reading when I was walking for leisure.
I was reading when I was working out.
I was reading when I was cleaning my house.
I was reading when I was cooking.

I was reading at 1.5X normal rate and rereading a few times in less time..

In short, audio-books have made me a more efficient reader.
If I have the luxury of time, I would prefer my cafe experience to read but until then, audio-book is my choice of app to consume books.

    @keni this is a great habit to have. Super efficient reading indeed. I recently just started with podcasts..maybe audiobooks are next! thanks for the encouragement

      @jasonleow - Podcasts are the best hands down. Someone said to me - podcast is the new blogging.

    @keni

    I love audio books for same reason. Although I go through phases. Sometimes, I'm in content consumption mode. And I'll listen on either 1.5 or 1.75 speed and try to absorb as much content as possible.

    For the past couple months though I've been in lived experience mode... sense making mode. So I've listened to the same novel as an audio book about 5-7 times? I can't remember the amount. But I've listened to the same audio book -- read by two difference voice actors -- 6ish times. Each time I get a new sense and meaning to it. After I finished it again two days ago, I immediately went back to chapter 1 and restarted.

      @abrahamKim - I like this process. I want to do 2 things:

      1) Improve my fiction writing (non-existent) skills
      2) Improve my voice/presentation skills.

      Your method here would help me with both at the same time.
      Very interesting Sir Abe.

    @keni More content in less time. It's a win-win! Although one thing I have to figure out is how to capture ideas when I hear them. I have to toy with the functionality and see whether there is a way to bookmark locations so I can go back to them.

      @brandonwilson - Yes that is the one con of audiobooks. I get a lot of aha moments and need to find a way to capture that. I usually return and listen at least 2 times so it sticks in my head.
