The wooden handrail feels so smooth, polished by thousands of sliding caresses. Running down the stairs, I can hear familiar creaks when my feet stomp on their favourite spots. I'm a bit behind them, I am trying to catch up... I forgot the leash and my dog really doesn't follow anybody's footsteps...
She is small, brown, "long", her coat is silky and soft. She is MINE. I dreamt about her, saved money, chose her from a whole litter of tiny squeaking dog sausages and I loved her since.
Now every Sunday we go to the forest with her. I love these small excursions. I love when my mom laughs and my dad helps me to catch balance when I waddle on the tree trunk. We sit together on a thick bough and look at the sunlight shining thru the leaves.
I stop as I see them at the landing below. I want to shout, that I am almost there, when I realise that they are kissing. It's a weird feeling when you see your parents kissing when you are 12. A bit of a surprise, hint of embarrassment, or even disgust, mixed with tender happiness.
He left not long afterwards. Haven't seen them kissing again...
