As we flowed with the rest of the people into the dark places between the lilting structures and pipes, two red eyes met mine. I stood still. A pair of eyes, I swear, gleaming with electric intensity. Then another pair and another.
Theo grabbed my arm. I flex - an instinctive reaction now that I've started doing pushups - and tear it away from him. I had to go closer.
I pull myself out of the stream of people and follow the eyes. But they flickered then disappeared. I look down. I could count only four paw prints in the mud. I peered into the darkness but saw nothing else but I still felt like I was being watched. I tried not to think too much about it and joined Theo who was waiting for me clutching onto his own arms like an oversized baby.
We lost ourselves in that beating heart of steel and sound. It must have been two nights or three. I can't quite remember. My face felt like it was melting off, I was so tired. My hands started to tremble. I don't know if it was the cold or the exhaustion but I felt my mind tremble too.
