My parents live in the countryside.

Behind our house is literally nothing but fields.

That makes for incredibly quiet nights. I only hear a single cricket chirping right now.

The silence is almost a sound in itself (sounds weird, I know).

I find this quietude extremely relaxing. It helps me recharge and refresh.

It fosters focus. There are no distractions. And I sleep extremely well.

But ...

After a while, it gets too much. It becomes too quiet for my taste.

There's a lack of action. Nothing is happening around. No stimulation. Not much input. I feel like I'm missing out on something.

That's when I know I'm ready to leave again. Get back to the bustling cities.

I've lived in the countryside for the first 18 years of my life. And I think that was enough. I can't imagine moving back to such a quiet place right now. Visiting is great, though, but I love big cities and want to be where the action is. Otherwise, I'll suffer from massive FOMO, haha.

Maybe, in a few years, this will change again. Maybe, I'll feel the urge to get back to the quiet. Never say never.
