How much do you trust the professional people you hire for a service?

I have almost zero trust in medical professionals. But I wasn't always like this. The trust got eroded along the way.

One endocrinologist asked me to use the machine she is familiar than the one I wanted to use. My choice was based on efficacy and comparison of many variables when using the options in the market.

One dentist duped me into getting a whole bunch of work done on my teeth so I could still have teeth in the near future.

One real estate agent told me I couldn't get a specific house I really wanted... claiming - 'you will not get approval'.
I know it wasn't true.

I am trying to sell a house now. The agent I hired is pressuring me to accept an offer hours after I got it because 'they will withdraw the offer'.

Scott Adams mentions in one of his talks that if you do not understand the basics of psychology, then it will likely be used against you.

With high ticket items like health, business and big loans like mortgage, how much do you trust and how much do you micromanage?

@keni - The way you present this caused me to slow down and think. What it makes me question is whether you trust yourself. Do you know what you want and trust yourself to get it?

@brianball - Yes. Definitely. I have had to build trust particularly in some fields where I have made mistakes in the past. When it comes to things I have no expertise or experience to learn from, I prefer to lean on "experts".

@keni The older I've gotten, the less trusting and more suspicious I am of so-called experts and professionals. I usually try to ascertain someone's motivations to determine whether the advice is sound. As far as doctors, I'll leave you with the joke "What do you call someone who finished last in medical school? Doctor." 🤣

@brandonwilson - So true. No one deserves the level of trust we place on doctors these days with their outdated medical courses.

@keni @brandonwilson - my 90 year-old grandma gets regular calls from the doctors office -- and we all know -- well, they can probably bill her insurance again -- they want her in for an office visit.

@keni Trust? I only trust those i've known for long and even they aren't always honest, it's a case of been comfortable with a familiar devil.

And the rest? Faith. and sometimes trust in my well-informed instinct.

It's a regular game we play with handyman/artisans here
