After seeing the movie Limitless, I went into a frenzy.

Was there a real life NZT pill?
Can we really access more of our brain by what we consume?

I researched how to increase the brain's performance.

I found out that NZT itself was fictional.... however I have seen Dave Asprey say that NZT is based on Modafinil. Dave took Modafinil for 10 years and says the movie Limitless very closely showed the symptoms of taking Modafinil.

He mentions that almost everyone in silicon valley was on it. Most people that owned companies are always looking for ways to get an edge and are taking some type of performance enhancer. Perfectionist looked for an advantage in sports and beyond.

Then I found that there are herbal performance enhancers that are not prescription drugs. There are now a lot of companies that are making a bunch of these enhancers and they are called Nootropics. Dave Asprey himself uses and sells some of them so he stopped taking Modafinil.

It is an interesting area where there is a debate about the advantage over the side effects.
This is the brave new world of performance enhancers.
How far will we go for an edge?

@keni - One trick is not to do more - but need less. Find a way to make yourself extremely happy and in that moment you won’t be thinking you need more. Find a partner, a team, another human to play with, that you are compelled to enjoy the moment with and the desire for more won’t be present.

@keni I think the exploration of performance enhancers is interesting. Unfortunately, for some people the thinking is just an extension of the "take a pill to fix it" mentality. When it comes to performance it goes back to the basic pillars of sleep, diet, exercise, and stress management. I think if you have all four of those dialed in and are looking for an additional edge, then by all means start experimenting with nootropics. But for the people who just want a shortcut without doing the work (I know that's not you) I say nish nish.

@keni I spend an entire week researching nootropics....something triggered it. I think I wanted to see if there were natural alternatives to adderall (which I had tried a couple of times).
Anyway, never got into it, I didn't want to start popping pills natural or not, the science is pretty non-existent and anecdotes and opinions are all over the place. But agree with @abrahamKim. We'll be expecting a field report in the coming weeks.
