Nearly 1 year ago I tried my first pill of Modafinil.
It changed my life.
In good? or in bad? I think both.
What is Modafinil or all -finil family
For a scientific description read it on wikipedia.
Less scientific description
It's a medication that improves your overall focus and keeps you more awake, it helps to clear your brain fog and it makes you write code like a boss.
Since my first pill, I've used Moda for a period of 4 to 6 months in with 2 months of break each time. Overall it was great for my career, I managed to work 12 hours a day in a super focus mindest, I doubled the projects I could manage and learned a lot of stuff.
But the main upside it was discipline and it helped me to reach a good focus point even without using it.
Physically, I haven't experienced many downsides, maybe a little bit of nausea or headache at the end of the day but it can be resolved with more hydration.
I think the worst downside is psychological, modafinil has a strong power to estrange you from reality, you become so main-task-focused that everything else falls into the background. Your social life, housekeeping, relationships, etc.
At the end of a few months, you become an introvert beast without hobbies and friends.
And your mind can't keep 12 hours a day of focus without expecting a burnout!
Yeah it seems very bad, and I hope that's only my personal experience, but like everything in life it needs supervision and moderation, it's very easy to let it go.
After a few months of "withdrawal" (not a serious one, modafinil doesn't build addiction, at contrary you want to take a break it after a while) I'm starting to feel better, doing more social activities and trying to get back my hobbies and passions :)
I don't know if I'll use it again, maybe, but with more caution and moderation.
