I wrote in my Awesome August post that I want to make the most out of the many gatherings with family and friends this month. Mosaic puzzles have a part to play in this goal.
A mosaic, in the context of a puzzle, is "a combination of diverse elements forming more or less a coherent whole". The pieces of a regular puzzle form a picture when put together. The pieces of a mosaic puzzle, in addition to this, are each individual pictures themselves. These kinds of puzzles are generally bigger as well, ranging up to 1000+ pieces.
When I was growing up, my dad, my brother and I loved to put together mosaic puzzles. They were challenging and took some time, but it was quality time we got to spend together and the final result was rewarding. This one is still hanging up on one of the walls of my parents' place.
I had the idea that it would be a great throwback to buy a mosaic puzzle to work on with my family when we go up to the cottage we are renting in two weeks' time. It's been so long since we've done one - I should make sure there aren't too many pieces so that we can finish on time!
