Dear Keni,

You will be faced with challenges when it comes to health.

So here's advice from 2019:

1. Don't miss your doctor's appointments.
They only add to the stress when you eventually go. And you need them to get your prescriptions on time.

2. Bio-Hack yourself.
Keep eating healthy and regular exercise as a habit. But keep testing to see what responds to your body. You will find what works for you quicker that way.

3. Don't accept all recommendations the doctor's make.
Their motivation doesn't align with yours. Blind trust can be an expensive mistake. Do you research and if something doesn't sound right, refuse treatment and part ways.

4. Be open to alternate medicine.
Read books to understand your body and the latest discovery. You will find the gems more in books, podcasts and forums from people like you than anywhere else.

Don't assume that healthcare in the US is perfect.

Healthcare is business here.

The cure they promise each year goes against the business model of the pharmaceutical industry.

So stay informed, know your rights and keep your head up.

You will have type 1 diabetes for life. Own it.
