It's The Process that counts ... Not the goal.

I'm rushing this post out the door because all I wanna do is get it done and go outside to the sunshine. It's days like these (and posts like these) where I probably shouldn't write anything at all. If I'm honest, I'm only doing it for my streak...

Which isn't necessarily a bad thing ... I mean,  I'm showing up each and every day. I'm past the 60 day form-a-new-habit threshold. Writing 200 words a day has very much become a part of my daily routine. So, should I be upset about the fact that I'm just writing whatever today?

I think the process and the act of doing are likely more important than anything else. It's about showing up and being present that counts because that's what helps to reinforce your identity as this new person who does X. Whereas before, you weren't that person.

Becoming the person you want to be takes a lot of grit and long-term commitment. It's not until you reach a tipping point where it simply becomes part of your life that your new habit starts to reveal itself. Once you hit that point it's easier to consider if your new life choice made sense, or if you should dump it and move on...

This life choice, to write, makes sense. To me it's about learning to be articulate and communicate freely. It's about learning new words and forming interesting sentences. It's about being pushed both creatively and mentally. It's also about habit forming and breaking down barriers.

My goal here is to write everyday, not to write a book. Same principle (should) apply with getting fit, losing weight, being an expert at x,y,z ... It shouldn't be about the goal - it should be about the process. I like to  think of my goals as more of a side-effect of the process; not an end to the process itself.

@jacklyons I really like how for the most important things in life, or life itself, seems to have this weird, ironic, counter-intuitive dynamic that you mentioned, where the process is the outcome; the journey is the destination; the medium is the message; the question is the answer; the means justify the ends.

@jacklyons None of us know where "this" is leading. I think it's enough to stay in the game. Onward!
