I'm self employed and work 7 days a week. Not the healthiest lifestyle, I know. My husband reminds me all of the time. Did I mention he's a personal trainer?
But no, he's not the reason I don't need a fitness app.
Meet Katie Eleanor and Dirty Harry aka "Dirt", my beloved rescue labs that provide unconditional love and never ending prompts to get off my arse and outside for play and exercise.
Yes, it's true. If you want to stay fit, adopt a dog or two.
I can guarantee every hour on the hour, you'll get a timely nudge and big puppy dog eyes until you have no choice but to cave in and grab the leash. I should have named them Pomodoro and Persistence.
They not only provide me with much needed activity but after dealing with difficult clients, there's nothing like ruffling the ears of my munchkins to de-stress and calm my nerves. I must confess that I prefer their company to humans in most scenarios.
They each have quite different personalities and Katie is most certainly the boss, especially during our walks. We rescued her from a kill shelter in Tennessee and was an almighty handful of nervousness until we adopted Harry six months later. He was tied up in a garage his first ten months of life until the owner's daughter returned from college to wisely surrender him to a local rescue group.
He is the happiest and most mellow man I've ever known. Whereas Katie walks me, we both walk Harry.
If you have furry children that keep you healthy, happy and active, write about them, I'd love to hear your stories!
