A friend of mine asked me today how she could get started as a freelance copywriter. And because I don't want a competitor, I kept all the secrets to myself. 

Just kidding ...

I told her exactly which resources I used (and still use) to get started. 

Here are the best sites with a ton of free material like blog posts and tutorials that will get you pretty far in learning copywriting:

Copyhackers - Once a week live tutorials on all things copywriting and freelancing

Copyblogger - Great articles and resources

Kopywriting Kourse - Copywriting taught in the most laid back, funny way

Neil Patel - The King of SEO and Marketing

Hubspot Academy - Free certifications (I've taken the Content and Email Marketing Courses.)

Of course, there's another part to becoming a freelance copywriter - the "freelance" part. How do you get your first client? 

Freelance to Win helped me get started with that. It's focused on getting your freelancing business off the ground through Upwork. For a total newbie (like I was), that was the easiest, most straightforward path. Literally, anybody can set up a profile on Upwork in a couple of minutes and look for the first simple jobs. 

Now, I'm also following Double Your Freelancing to take it to the next level.

    @juliasaxena I think upwork is pretty competitive, how you make sure you stand out from the rest? any specific industry you specialize in?

      @knight Being specific about what you do and the niche of people you serve definitely helps. Companies are much more likely to hire someone who seems to be a specialist in their area rather than someone who has a very broad general profile. I've focused on B2B companies, for example, who are looking to increase their leads. I agree that Upwork is competitive, but most people on there are rather cheap labour. You can actually stand out by having a higher rate and only serve the companies that can afford you.
