Everything is so familiar. So reassuring.
The food hasn't changed in about 20 years and neither have meal times.
The house still smells the same.
The pictures, books, figurines, porcelain, that I've known my whole life are still there.
This constant in an ever-changing world is really nice to have.
It's a place of calm. A retreat.
To recharge the batteries and get ready for another round of craziness in the outside world.
Not much of what's going on in the world seems to matter here.
It's all on TV but seems so far away.
The TV stations are re-running old shows all summer anyway. Nobody is watching because it's just too nice outside.
And one of the best things ... it's so so quiet. There's literally no disturbing sound. At all. No cars, no people. Maybe some birds. The goats across the street make some noise only sometimes.
No noise means ... best ... sleep ... ever! I need it.
I can't stay here forever though.
That wouldn't be good either. Then, the things that I enjoy now would turn sour at some point.
Better get the experience a couple of weeks a year.
