"Proximity is power. Find a way to get close to people who can help you in your life and business."
I saw this quote online and found it disturbing.
Making friends for future benefit?
When discussing this with friends, they said that everything is a give and take. Everyone that wants to spend time with you - is searching for something. And so am I. Consciously or otherwise.
It is when the two things line up that a good friendship develops.
I agree that life is about give and take. But relationships initiated with the pre-meditated goal that we could get something out of the person is a turn off.
How can that be the start of a real long-term relationship?
When it comes to entrepreneurship, I have benefited from one of my close friends. Mike. A hard-working dedicated small business owner and a genuine person overall. He has consistently motivated me when I was tired and close to giving up. I consider him as my mentor.
But we started out as good friends.
It may be a shortcut to befriend someone on the basis of benefit but I prefer to grow with people I genuinely like. Naive as it may sound.
