Headlines are important. Period.
People read the headline first and then decide if it's worth to continue. Sure, it makes sense.
But, did you know that most people actually share articles on social media based on the headline ALONE, without even reading the article?
Marketers and copywriters are frequently obsessing over finding the right headlines. Some suggest that you should spend as much time on the headline as on the body copy.
Some interesting tools have mushroomed that can be very useful when used with caution.
- The headline generator by the Kopywriting Kourse
- Another headline generator by Active Campaign
- The headline analyzer by CoSchedule
On the downside, more and more formulas and best practices for the perfect headline appear. If everybody relies on those though, they quickly become overused and annoying.
I can imagine every one of us could name a headline that he/she is just sick of.
For me, it's some version of "Top 10 reasons why you should start your own business - #8 will surprise you."
I used to click on those articles, only to find myself increasingly underwhelmed by the content. And no, number 8 was not surprising at all, but super obvious.
So, what's the best headline? To be discussed in another post!
