I am a big fan of TV series. Especially, Silicon Valley and Barry. All of these TV shows have one thing in common: extreme sarcasm bundled with endearment. It is like the barbell effect. One end is the biting sarcasm bordering exaggeration. Another end is extremely sincere and genuine about a few things, in a poignant manner.
Silicon Valley show has all the quirkiness of the brogrammers, geeks and their whimsies. Yes, it is exaggerated, but there are many layers of truth in it. At the same time, it is terrific in showing the struggle of aspiring entrepreneurs, shines a light on many common mistakes. The serious moments are sandwiched between the sarcasm.
It is like some magic trick. Sarcasm and humour make you let your guard down and relax. Suddenly a severe (and sincere) moment is injected in our psyche. Not too long in an annoying manner. After that moment, another sarcasm makes you laugh in a rip-roaring way.
Barry has the same template. It was terrific in its black humour. But there are some moments that really shooks your heart and can bring tears. The screenwriting is claimed to be masterful. But as a layperson, it gives me immense joy and pleasure in every episode.
