I have a quick chat with my friend about on the things that he was struggling.
He mentions that he was kinda getting annoyed in studying in algorithms stuff for his work-related. He no longer has time to do other things because of this.
I tell him that I think it’s part of the process if you want to get something ‘cause you can’t just have it immediately.
This reminds me of a message from anime Full Metal Alchemist First Law of Equivalent Exchange
Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.
He asked me “What are the things that I sacrifice in order to get what I want?”
I tell him that 2 years ago I made a big decision in my life to chase my dreams in business, startup and entrepreneurial endeavor. I sacrifice the comfort that I get in the corporate job, a steady paycheck, free rent in the company and all of those comfortable things for something that I really care about.
In return of those sacrifices: I failed a lot, meet a lot of great people, learned more about myself, start and close business, lose time and money, hit the rock bottom and found myself with a clearer purpose. It’s crazy how those past two years experience have been compressed that feels like 10 years have been passed.
Moving forward, I think it was somewhat true that in order to gain something important at some point we need to sacrifice something in return. That is the principle I choose to believe ‘cause life is too good if those things that we really want is granted easily without any effort.
